Wednesday Reads: Fall in Love with a Zombie... Book.
It took me a while to figure out what topic I wanted to highlight for today. I scrolled through Google news, trying to see if there was some kind of current event that could inform my book choices. It was depressing. I definitely didn't want to put something together about the debt ceiling, or the tragedies here and around the world. Death, cataclysm, and mayhem were the highlights of every popular news story. So I decided to do a display about death, sort of. Specifically: undead. More specifically: zombies.

So one day, I was browsing some free ebooks for my ereader, and I came across this book:

I'm not sure if Sex in the Time of Zombies still available for free download. It may be, so check your nook and/or amazon e-stores. But I will say this about it: wow. It is REALLY interesting. The author blends two different human concerns (sex and death) in a post zombie-takeover world. The short stories are intense, and made me deliciously squeamish at times, but if you're into that sort of thing: CHECK IT OUT.

I love Blood Crazy by Simon Clark! And although I thought it was just okay, a lot of people love Cell by Stephen King.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, Cell. That was a good one. It was interesting in that one how the cell zombies operated in a hive mentality with a "Queen Bee."

It's odd, I've never really been able to get into the zombie theme of things. I think it is fascinating, but it's never quite appealed to me, although, I do like me some zombie-comedy movies (Zombieland and Evil Dead)

ReplyDeleteBreathers by S.G. Brown and My Life as a White Trash Zombie by Diana Rowland. I've really wanted to look into Forest of Hands and Teeth, but I still haven't gotten around to it. While I've read a few zombie books, I would say that Brown and Rowland's books top my list of favorites!

Forest of Hands and Teeth is pretty good. I wasn't as enthusiastic about the sequel, however. Thanks for sharing your books! I haven't read those.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Sex in the Time of Zombies is no longer free. It was picked up for a print run by Living Dead Press, which means I had to yank the free version from my website. That being said, it is still also available as an ebook from the same publisher and the new edition contains a bonus story ("The Bad Plan") which wasn't included in the original collection.
