Wednesday Reads: Teen Writers Are Authors Too!
After reading a news article about a fourteen-year-old, recently published author, I thought it would be nice to share some popular books written by teen authors.
Teen Angst? Naaah . . . A Quasi-autobiography by Ned Vizzini
"Teens who have trouble gaining perspective on those eventful junior high and high school years can take solace in the witty and down-to-earth observations of Ned Vizzini's "quasi-autobiography." Reflecting on his time as a New York City student possessing creative flair and a taste for memorable anecdotes, this talented writer relates his experiences with Nintendo playing, high school cliques, buying beer, sexual opportunities, jobs, and parents. . . . Teen Angst? Naaah... is a hilarious look at getting older . . ." - GoodReads Page
Halo by Alexandra Adornetto
"Three angels are sent down to bring good to the world: Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, a teenage girl who is the least experienced of the trio. But she is the most human, and when she is romantically drawn to a mortal boy, the angels fear she will not be strong enough to save anyone—especially herself—from the Dark Forces.
Is love a great enough power against evil?" - GoodReads Page
In the Forests of the Night by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
"By day, Risika sleeps in shaded room in Concord, Massachusetts. By night, she hunts the streets of New York City. She is used to being alone. But someone is following Risika. He has left her a black rose, the same sort of rose that sealed her fate three hundred years ago. Three hundred years ago Risika had a family- a brother and a father who loved her. Three hundred years ago she was human. Now she was a vampire, a powerful one. And her past has come back to torment her." - GoodReads Page
The Duff by Kody Keplinger
"Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.
But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone." - GoodReads Page
Other books by teen authors include:
Break and Invincible Summer by Hannah Moskowitz
Golden by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
Also, I will be posting my review of Legacy by Cayla Kluver, who was a teen when she wrote and first published the book, this Friday.
Thank you to fellow librarians who gave me input for this list!
Are there any other books written by teen authors you absolutely love that are not listed here? What would you add to this list?

Since I read almost strictly non-fiction, it is really hard for me to pick out any authors. I'm trying really hard to get back into the fiction world though.
ReplyDeleteThere is one series, I cannot remember the name of the author or much about it, but I think it was called Fear or Fearless about a girl who was born or who doesn't have the "fear gene". I really enjoyed it at the time, but that may be because that kind of book was forbidden in my house growing up.
Wow, I can't believe these were all written by teens! I'm a writer myself, and I really hope I can publish someday! Nice blog and cool reviews! I love it. New follower, hope you can stop by my blog at www.sabaawesome.blogspot.com! thnks!
ReplyDeleteBecky- That's great! I like reading non fiction as well. Especially if it has to do with something science related. Also, I think the series is Fearless by Francine Pascal. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSaba- I know! Isn't it great? I will stop by. Thanks for visiting. :)
