This week, I wrote about some techie stuff and had a typical censorship rant and shared some books about girls in captivity. Here is the rundown of this week's posts: Rating Systems, Censorship, and I CAN'T SHUT UP Google Chrome Goodreads Button Young Girls in Captivity | Wednesday Reads Mango is Now Mobile New Symphony of Science Vid and "The Grand Design" If you are a new follower, please visit my " About " page to learn more about me and the blog. Q. Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story? If so, which one? I know some may hate me for saying this, but Bella. Hands down. I couldn't even get through New Moon . The inane whining over Edward drove me nuts, and I was just rooting for some vamp to come tear her throat out and do a favor to all humanity. I'm sorry but she is probably the worst protagonist to become a household name in the history of writing. Vacant, and without any motivation other than being some dude-...

FOLLOW FRIDAY (Thursday?) 8/26/11

Welcome new followers! Please visit my about page to learn a little more about me and this blog. The first Follow Friday question is hosted by Parajunkee's View  and Alison Can Read . Q. In books like the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series the paranormal creature in question "comes out of the closet" and makes itself known to the world. Which mythical creature do you wish would come out of the closet, for real? Fairies. Hands. Down. Why? For two reasons: 1. I could obtain a fairy familiar like Link in the Zelda series. She would be a handy companion, who could give me life when needed, offer me enhanced magical abilities, or resurrect my dead body. 2. I could shake a fairy's dust on me, think happy thoughts, and voila, I no longer have to pay for airfare to visit the mainland. Plus, I could go to Neverland and be a pirate. Which would be sweet. Although, having a fairy nearby could attract vampires, as has been seen in the Sookie Stackhouse novels an...

Welcome new followers! I have a pretty sweet giveaway going on right now, be sure to check it out. Also if you are new, please visit my about page to learn a little more about me and the blog. First question from Parajunkee's Feature & Follow Friday ! Q. How has your reading habits changed since you were a teen? or If you are still a teen what new genres are you in love with currently? Oh man. I love a lot of the same stuff I loved as a teen. But that doesn't mean my reading habits haven't changed, they have. I think they've changed for the better. When I was a teen, I was only into fantasy fiction, today, I'm into all sorts of crazy things like books about philosophy, sociology, psychology, religion, science, etc. I've also broadened my fiction reading into not just fantasy, but regular fiction as well.   Q. Let’s talk crazy book titles! Highlight one or two (or as many as you like!) titles in your personal collection that have the most interesting...

Follow Me This Friday... Or Else. 8/5

Hello new followers! Be sure to stop by my about page to learn a little more about me and my blog. I hope you enjoy your stay. Let me get started with the first Friday Question brought to you by Parajunkee's View . Q. Talk about the book that most changed or influenced your life (was it a book that turned you from an average to avid reader, did it help you deal with a particularly difficult situation, does it bring you comfort every time you read it?). For this question, I have two answers (one for non-fiction, and one for fiction). For non-fiction, I would have to say Meditations by Marcus Aurelius . When I was in college, getting my undergrad, I went through a lot of depression and self doubt. Marcus Aurelius, a philosopher king from thousands of years ago, had the words that I needed to read at that time in my life. Stoic philosophy gave me a way of looking at the world that helped pull me out of my depression, and stop caring so much about how I compared to others. ...

Q. Let's step away from books for a second and get personal. What T-Shirt slogan best describes you? A.   Something with the following illustration on it: Q. Highlight one book you have received this week (for review, from the library, purchased at the store, etc.) that you can’t wait to dig into! A.  I just download Fury by Elizabeth Miles from the Simon and Schuster Galley Grab and I am so excited to read it! Mainly because the cover looks freaking awesome. Q. Character Envy: If you could be one character from a book,  who would you choose & why? A. Well, as per the theme of my blog, I already connect a lot with Alice. But since I already feel like her at times, if I could be anyone, it would be Kahlan Amnell from the Sword of Truth series. She's hot. She's powerful. And she kicks ass. To my new followers, please stop by my "About" page to learn a little more about me and this blog. Please leave a comment, so I can learn who you are!

Q. Name 3 authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour or a meal with just talking about either their books or get advice on writing from? I know they are dead, but since this is a hypothetical question to begin with, I would vote for Mark Twain, Carl Sagan, and J. R. R. Tolkien. Hands down. I don't know how much talking I would do. I would just sit down and listen to them say fabulous things.  Q. What’s the ONE GENRE that you wish you could get into, but just can’t? Romance. For instance, even after trying to enjoy it, I have never been a Jane Austen fan. I find the Mr. Darcy obsession intriguing but I just think it's all boring. There is such a huge following for romance, however, and a lot of good stuff out there I'm sure. And even though I have a difficult time liking the genre, every now and then I'm pleasantly surprised.

I stumbled upon a pretty awesome paranormal book site called " Parajunkee's View ." I've been seriously blogging here about books and writing for a little over a month now and I have been having a blast! I'm looking forward to meeting other book bloggers. :D So please leave a comment. I'll check out your blog if you leave the URL. "What do I do when I am not reading?" I write and blog. I also spend time with my little family at the beach. And thanks to Netflix I have plenty of awesome shows to watch like Pawn Stars, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, Merlin... Oh and Dragon Age for the PS3 can take over my life.
