Q. Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story? If so, which one?

I know some may hate me for saying this, but Bella. Hands down. I couldn't even get through New Moon. The inane whining over Edward drove me nuts, and I was just rooting for some vamp to come tear her throat out and do a favor to all humanity.

I'm sorry but she is probably the worst protagonist to become a household name in the history of writing. Vacant, and without any motivation other than being some dude-who-kinda-wants-to-eat-her's girlfriend, she is also a horrible example of how girls should act towards creepy stalker boys.

Twilight would've been way more worthwhile if Bella had been replaced with Buffy:




Book Blogger Hop Q. Many of us primarily read one genre of books, with others sprinkled in. If authors stopped writing that genre, what genre would you start reading? Or would you give up reading completely if you couldn’t read that genre anymore?

I love reading many genres. But if dystopian/post-apocalyptic books were to fall off the face of the planet, apart from crying my eyes out, I would read more general fiction, fantasy, and science fiction. Also, I would probably pick up medieval through Edwardian era mysteries (which I am planning on doing in the near future anyways).

There is no way in Hades I would give up reading completely. I love dystopian books, but I love so many other books. . . There's also some great non-fiction (philosophy, science, sociology) out there, of which I already read, but would read more of as well.

    Oh, I don't blame you at all. Don't get me wrong  - I love the Twilight Saga...but I never liked Bella. She annoyed the hell outta me. I would never give up reading either.

    Thanks for commenting Amber! I find it fascinating that even lovers of the series so seriously hate the protagonist. That is an odd thing if you ask me. Typically if you hate the protagonist, I think a book is harder to like. But that isn't always true. I guess when I read "Pretties" by Westerfeld, I hated how ditzy everyone was, but I guess it was the point of the book. haha

    Yeah, it's crazy! I think the Twilight books were a first for me for liking the story and hating Bella lol! I love, love, love them but she p*ss*s me off! Kristen Stewart didn't help Bella any in the movies either. I don't like either of them haha.

    I see what you're saying about Pretties, but that didn't bother me like Bella. And at least it was temporary for Tally!

    Ha ha! I love your answer. I'm a Twilight fan, but I get the annoying Bella and bad writing thing with Twilight. I can appreciate criticism for the series. ;)

Q. Name 3 authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour or a meal with just talking about either their books or get advice on writing from? I know they are dead, but since this is a hypothetical question to begin with, I would vote for Mark Twain, Carl Sagan, and J. R. R. Tolkien. Hands down. I don't know how much talking I would do. E-Reading in the Bathtub?

Okay, so a lot of people say that e-readers never will replace print because they just, well, love paper books so much. I get it. When I get a new hardbound book and crack open the cover for the first time, the smell is intoxicating. I swear publishers put some kind of drug in the book binding glue to make it so addictive. But I also love my e-reader, and have been using it more and more... and in some cases, I'm preferring it over some paper books (because it isn't as heavy). Also, in June 2011, adult paperback books plunged 64% from last year, while e-book sales went up 161 percent . This suggests that while many hardcover books are still being purchased (though it dropped 25 % in the same month), people who just want to read a book for the sake of the words, and not the format (i.e. paperback readers), are starting to gravitate towards e-books. Libraries have growing digital collections, and some libraries have already started lending e-readers . I think in the future,...
