How To Open a New Book

My friend Becky sent me a link to some instructions of how to open a new book. I am sharing it here:

...Ah the good old days. Sometimes I fear the modern ways of opening a book have become a little too complicated. (But I still love my eReader.)

Also, I couldn't share this without sharing this hilarious video of a medieval help desk. A medieval "techie" helps a person with brand new technology, the book:

So what do you think? Do you have any rituals, traditions, or habits you engage in when you open a new book for the first time?

  4. I have an very old book that has a slip of paper like that. It was for the olden days readers, but works just has well for today's readers. :)
I love the smell of books, old and new. It may sound odd, but one of my rituals is I open the book and smell the pages. I actually don't know if I could call it a ritual or a habit.

  10. OMG!! I could have written those instructions. I am an absolute beast about how someone handles my books. I'm very particular about the way they're handled. Oddly enough, not so much with kids. I'm a new GFC follower and my blog is about the darker side of fiction. I'm at

  11. Blue- I know what you mean! I even get finicky with paperbacks. Sometimes I'll let someone look at a paperback of mine, and they'll FOLD THE COVER BEHIND THE BOOK. It is so hard not to flip out right then and there.
